How to Apply for a Job at Woolworths: Online Application Form

To apply for a Store Team Member role at Woolworths, you need to complete the online application form. You can do this with or without a resume.

If you use a resume, your work experience and skills list will be automatically populated within the application form.

The first step is to confirm you are 15 years or older. You will also be asked if you currently or have previously worked for Woolworths.

Personal Information

You will then be prompted to fill in your personal information. You will also be asked if this is your first job. Be honest here, no work experience is not a problem.

If this is your first job, you will only need to complete your contact details here. If you have held other roles, the form will prompt you to fill in your work history.

There is a skills box you can complete. Make sure you add all your skills!

If you have uploaded your resume, the skills list will be populated based on the information in your resume. You should check this carefully and remove any that are not accurate.

You have the option to upload a resume and a cover letter.

Diversity & Inclusion

The next step is a series of questions that allow you to disclose your gender, refugee status, cultural identity, language or disability.

Woolworths states this information is to “assist us in providing an inclusive hiring experience and interview adjustments where required.”

It is important to note, however, that you are NOT obligated to provide this information to a potential employer. Therefore, it is acceptable to give the ‘prefer not to answer’ response.

Job Specific Questions

You will also be asked to consent to a criminal history check. Additionally, to indicate your right to work status in Australia.

In this section, you will be requested to provide the days and times you will regularly be available to work. This will be used to consider your suitability for the role.

Finally, you will be asked some role-specific questions. For example, that you’re comfortable being on your feet for the entire shift and able to lift products or stock weighing up to 10-15 kilograms.

These questions will vary depending on the role you are applying.

Prepare Your Resume to Apply for a Job at Woolworths

When you complete the online application form, you have the option of uploading a resume and cover letter.

A strong resume and cover letter will include evidence that confirms you hold the skills and values required by Woolworths. Therefore, for each skill listed below, include in your resume an example of when you have performed or demonstrated this skill in the past.

The best way to do this is with an achievement story. The most straightforward approach for writing an achievement story is: Accomplished (X) by doing (Z). For example:

Resolved a customer complaint and avoided escalation to the Manager by listening to customer concerns and offering a solution aligned with store procedures

Your examples can be from your work, extracurricular activities, student placements, hobbies, sports, volunteer roles, academic studies, and short courses.

Skills & Personal Qualities Required

Several skills in this list have been discussed in more detail in previous articles. Click on the link for guidance and examples of how you can demonstrate these skills on your resume.

If you are applying for a leadership role, be sure also to include examples of your previous success leading a team.

The Right Attitude

According to Woolworths, “the right attitude is everything.” This means that Woolworths is, first and foremost, looking for people with qualities that match its culture and goals. In other words, it is seeking the right mindset rather than a specific set of technical skills.

Within your resume, you need to convey your interest in food and shopping, a customer-first mindset, team focus, flexibility and adaptability, and reliability.

Simply listing these traits will be insufficient. Instead, think of the ways you show these values and traits. Think broadly and outside of the box.

You can use your resume profile section to mention your interest in food, perhaps your previous experience within the food industry, your interest in growing vegetables, a memorable meal, or your specialty dish. Take a similar approach if shopping is your interest.

Customer experience in-store is important.

When have you provided exceptional customer service in the past? Or when you have helped out a friend? What will be your approach to customer service in-store? Give insight in your resume profile section.

Adaptability and flexibility are key skills for any job, but especially the retail sector, as retailers innovate, explore new strategies, new store formats and new technology.

On your resume, you need to show that you are comfortable with change. When have you learnt new technology? When have you previously experienced change or uncertainty and remained composed and focused?
